OAuth is a simple way to publish and interact with protected data

What Company Is Offering:
OAuth is a simple way to publish and interact with protected data. It's also a safer and more secure way for people to give you access. They've kept it simple to save you time.
OAuth , it allows you the User to grant access to your private resources on one site (which is called the Service Provider), to another site (called Consumer, not to be confused with you, the User). It is intended to solve this problem by allowing users to give services a valet key to their identities, rather than full access.

How Is It Different:
While OpenID is all about using a single identity to sign into many sites, OAuth is about giving access to your stuff without sharing your identity at all (or its secret parts).OAuth attempts to provide a standard way for developers to offer their services via an API without forcing their users to expose their passwords (and other credentials).

What For:

Many luxury cars today come with a valet key. It is a special key you give the parking attendant and unlike your regular key, will not allow the car to drive more than a mile or two. Some valet keys will not open the trunk, while others will block access to your onboard cell phone address book. Regardless of what restrictions the valet key imposes, the idea is very clever. You give someone limited access to your car with a special key, while using another key to unlock everything else.

Everyday new website offer services which tie together functionality from other sites. A photo lab printing your Flickr photos, a social network using your Google address book to look for friends, and APIs to build your own desktop application version of a popular site. These are all great services – what is not so great about some of the implementations available today is their request for your username and password on the other site.

Chinese online video Web site Hupo.TV partnerering Music Radio

Chinese online video Web site Hupo.TV, backed by Internet entrepreneur Brad Greenspan, landed an exclusive partnership with China government-backed pop radio station Music Radio, the company said on Wednesday.

Hupo.TV, which draws more than 30 million unique monthly visitors, will manage Music Radio's Web site as well as its online marketing and events. Music Radio is part of China Central People's Broadcasting Station.

Greenspan once ran the company that owned the top Internet social network MySpace and most recently staged an unsuccessful bid to snatch Wall Street Journal publisher Dow Jones & Co Inc. from Rupert Murdoch's News Corp.

The 34-year-old executive sued News Corp last year for its $580 million purchase of MySpace's parent company, claiming the deal's low value defrauded shareholders.

Greenspan is chairman of BroadWebAsia, a financial backer of Hupo.TV.

"The Chinese Internet is on the verge of tremendous growth over the next 2-3 years to 250 million users," Greenspan said in a statement.

Online auction giant eBay has launched a microlending website that lets people invest in entrepreneurs

Online auction giant eBay has launched a microlending website that lets people invest in entrepreneurs in poor communities around the world and get a return on their money.
Unlike micro-finance organizations that make interest-free loans to people in developing countries, Microplace.com offers investors profits for funding folks trying to build better lives, said founder Tracey Turner.
“You are actually investing in the world’s working poor,” Turner told AFP. “And for the first time you get a return on investment. You can take the profit and invest in more people in a virtuous cycle.”
Turner’s vision of MicroPlace began taking shape in 2005, after she lived for a time with a Kenyan family comprised of a single mother caring for three children.
The Kenyan woman bought a sewing machine with $100 she borrowed and started an in-home business making school uniforms for local children.
The woman paid the debt and managed to send one of her sons to college in the United States.
“When you are out in the field talking to these women whose lives are transformed because of $30 or $10, then you are part of the movement forever,” Turner said.
California-based eBay bought Turner’s business plan in June of 2006 and the website launched 24 October of this year.
Website visitors can browse investors by country, seeing pictures of people seeking loans and reading about their business goals.
MicroPlace connects investors with micro-finance organizations in the various countries. MicroPlace scrutinizes the organizations to check their legitimacy.
“Our job is to vet,” Turner said. “We do a lot of research.”
Turner said rates of return are modest but that investors at the website see value in addressing global poverty. Lenders shoulder the risk that loans will not be repaid.
“The eye-opening thing for everyone is that repayment rates by the working poor remain unbelievably high, north of 98%,” Turner said.
Thousands of people visit the website daily and hundreds of thousands of dollars in loans have already been issued, according to MicroPlace. In keeping with the holidays, some have made gifts of loans by issuing in others’ names.
“What gets me out of bed in the morning is the idea that when you invest in a person it really honors them and enhances their dignity as a human being,” Turner said. “Which is different than a hand out.”
MicroPlace gets fees from microfinance organizations that get money through the website. Money is moved through online financial-transactions firm PayPal, which eBay owns.
“I think it is important everyone from the investor to the person making baskets in a village makes a profit,” Turner said. “The beauty and magic of micro-finance is that it is scalable. That is the only way it will scale.”
The company has promised that any profits made by MicroPlace will be invested in other initiatives for social good, according to Turner.
Pierre Omidyar, the eBay founder and his wife have channelled hundreds of millions of dollars into microloans through their own foundation and are investors in online microlending website Kiva.

Global Broadcast News Ltd would invest Rs500 crore in an entertainment venture with US media group Viacom Inc

The broadcaster of news channels CNN-IBN and IBN7, Global Broadcast News Ltd (GBN) on Tuesday said it would invest Rs500 crore in an entertainment venture with US media group Viacom Inc. and in launching regional news channels. The funds are to come in through foreign direct investment (FDI).
“The amount of Rs500 crore will go in launching a number of news channels in regional languages and in an entertainment venture with Viacom,” GBN joint managing director Sameer Manchanda said.
He said GBN had proposed to induct up to 26% FDI.
Its proposal was among the 19 FDI projects, amounting to Rs726.88 crore, approved by the government on Monday.
GBN, a part of the Network18 Group, has already announced the launch of a 24-hour Marathi language news and current affairs channel, through a 50:50 joint-venture with the Lokmat Group.
Manchanda said the company would launch a few more regional news channels in the future, but did not give details.
The company had raised around Rs105 crore through an initial public offering early this year and has also formed a joint venture with the Jagran group to bring out a business newspaper in Hindi.
The Network18 Group has also announced plans to enter the entertainment space with a 50:50 joint venture with Viacom. The venture—Viacom 18—would operate the existing MTV Network channels inIndia (MTV, Vh1 and Nickelodeon), launch a new Hindi general entertainment channel, and house the group’s film business. The media sector is in a dynamic growth phase and GBN is geared up to take advantage of such opportunities and strengthen its leadership position as a media house, Manchanda said.

ki work specializes in online work

What Company Is Offering:
ki work specializes in online work.
ki work is a marketplace, search facility and operational platform for project buyers and freelance professionals in the global sourcing of online work - powered by a network of accredited ki experts and category leaders.

How It Works:

ki work is a marketplace supporting a number of services. ki work provides an online platform that uses unique search technology based on semantic string analysis to match clients and professionals of outsourcing services. client can find the professionals they need on their own, or request the help of accredited experts to assist them either with recruitment or project management, or both. In this respect, accredited experts may play the role of recruitment/placement agents and negotiate their own fees.

How Is It Different:

1.category focus

In other marketplaces, professionals set up a single profile with the ability to show a wide range of expertise across a number of outsourcing categories. In ki work, professionals set up a generic profile with one or more detailed "elevator pitch" offers, each built round a specific outsourcing category. This enables professionals to differentiate themselves from other professionals and to be more easily found by clients. Experts offer their services on the same basis.

2.accreditation by experts

In other marketplaces, professionals that pay for subscriptions get the benefit of higher ranking and unrestricted access to respond to bids. clients do not have any way of judging whether a subscription payer is any better than a non subscription payer. In ki work professionals pay a subscription in return for being accredited by an expert in their field. The expert in turn has been accredited by a founder member. Assuming that the expert maintains a high level of reputation, this provides valuable information for the prospective client, knowing that a candidate has already been (at least partially) screened and vetted. It also adds real value to the professional's proposition.
