AdPerk is a new advertising network that offers direct rewards to consumers for watching commercials online

AdPerk is a new advertising network that offers direct rewards to consumers for watching commercials online. Popular Science has signed on for AdPerk’s service, and Dwell magazine debuted along with AdPerk’s launch last month.

So this is how it works: Popular Science offers a free annual subscription (that’s one year of free magazines) in exchange for the consumer to watch video ads, pulled in from a variety of marketers. The consumers will have to perform a verification sequence within 30 seconds of watching each video, and provide their names and addresses upon checkout. They’ll also receive a digital version of Popular Science’s current edition directly after the completion of their tasks. Popular Science in turn gets a new customer, as well as future marketing data for targeted campaigns.

Consumers do get to choose the videos they’d like to watch, and don’t have to watch them all immediately. But the whole purpose here is to get people’s attention long enough to actually watch the video ads. That’s always a daunting task. AdPerks will also bring in the advertisers on behalf of the publishing companies that go along with its service, so there’s also no correlation between the magazine’s advertisers and this particular set up.

Google Will Pay You

There’s a new way to earn a few extra bucks from Google without inserting code into your site or hoping you get enough clicks to warrant a payout this month. Sign on to be a business referral representative.

Here’s the deal: Google is looking to provide even more useful information when it comes to business information on Google Maps, like hours of operation, types of payment accepted, photos of the location, etc. It’s offering the job to you, making you an independent contractor of Google. And you’ll get paid! Each approved and verified approval can earn you up to $10. Verification happens when a business referral is approved by Google (that will get you $2) or by the business itself ($8 for this one). You will, however, still have to earn enough to get that sweet payout. Rack up at least $25 in referrals in one month, and Google will send a check.

Between the business referral system and Google Maps street views, I think we’ll all be working for Google one day.

Chokti is a travel resource site that lets you search for podcasts and other information regarding the location you’re looking up

Chokti is a travel resource site that lets you search for podcasts and other information regarding the location you’re looking up. Podcasts can be downloaded and saved to an iPod to have a street-level tour when you travel to various locations.

The information on Chokti is submitted by users, and is kept up via RSS. As a user, you can add a pushpin on the Chokti map, which is really just a place marker for a location where you’d like to see more information. The basics you can add include the address, hours of operation, prices, website URL, phone number, holidays and closures, and more. The additional information, like photos and podcasts, must be requested. There’s a section where all of these tour requests reside, and you can respond to these requests by adding a feed.

Read Books In Your E-mail Via DailyLit

They created DailyLit because we spent hours each day on email but could not find the time to read a book. Now the books come to us by email. Problem solved. The Idea We got the idea for DailyLit after the New York Times serialized a few classic works in special supplements a few summers ago. We wound up reading books that we had always meant to simply by virtue of making them part of our daily routine of reading the newspaper. The only thing we do more consistently than read the paper is read email. Bingo! We put together a first version and began reading "War of the Worlds" and "Pride and Prejudice". We showed it to friends, added more books and features at their request, and presto, DailyLit was born.
You can search for books by title, author, or category to find what you’re looking for. Once you’ve found a book that’s appealing to you, you can check out the forums and see what others have said about that book, read a few of the lines from the book to see if it’s what you’re expecting and something that interests you, and see how many installments it will take to finish the book. When you’ve had a section mailed to you, you can choose to go straight to the next installment, or just wait till it arrives in your mailbox (or feed reader). So if you have a hard time finding a few minutes to enjoy a book, you’ve found your solution with DailyLit.

Tabbed Searching

NoFoodHere is a futuristic search engine created by time-travelling chickens from the 4.5th dimension. Just kidding. It's not quite that exciting. NoFoodHere is an experiment in creating a new, improved search engine. Since the beginning of the internet (and web searching), the web has changed, but search engine pages largely haven't. NoFoodHere is a modern search engine that uses Web 2.0 technology to stream search results, instead of displaying them page-by-page. It incorporates tabbed searching.
What sets NoFoodHere apart from other search engines is that it allows tabbed searching. In the same web page, you can search for eight different queries, and they are all easily accessible. Also, the results are shown all on the same page.
