Local Motors is a next generation American car company

What Company Is Offering:
Local Motors is a next generation American car company. It is the first disruptive entrant in the US automotive industry in decades and it is the first of its kind.Local Motors will design, manufacture, and bring to market innovative, safer, more functional, lightweight, efficient cars through a revolutionary, local assembly and retail experience. These cars will revolutionize not only automobiles, but also the very structure of auto-making, auto-selling, and auto-servicing.

How It Works:
Local Motors will build low inventory, high cash conversion, low capital intensity assembly facilities distributed across the United States, which will bring satisfying and meaningful manufacturing employment in a pleasurable life-work experience.

Local Motors will create an aspirational experience of scarcity driven demand whereby the local factory will create a Wonka-like fascination with its products and methods. Not only will it sell its cars, but it will sell the experience of people being able to visit and watch their car being "born".

Local Motors will pledge a customer experience of loyal, uncompromising, personal service deserving of the largest purchase that many people ever make - their car.

You may post your design competition submissions to your own portfolios. This includes your personal website as well as portfolio hosting sites. By participating in the Local Motors competition, you are pledging not to try and sell your design to other buyers. This means you may not submit the same design to the Local Motors competition and another competition at the same time. We do not want to fall in love with your design, only to find out that you no longer own it or it is no longer available.

After you register and activate your account, you can access your portfolio by going to the "My Account" link in the upper right corner of the main page. Scroll about halfway down, and you will see an option to "Add this picture to my portfolio". There you can upload any design you like, but you will need to do so one at a time and each file will need to be 1Mb or smaller. They are working to make this process faster. Some people have had difficulty uploading designs.

Freerange Stock is to provide quality stock photos for commercial and non-commercial use

What Company Is Offering:
Freerange Stock was formed with the goal to provide quality stock photos for commercial and non-commercial use. For free. They feel that free stock photos can be good photos. Freerange is an advertising revenue supported photographic community - photographers get paid when users click on the ads that appear next to their submissions.

Images on the site are either shot by Freerange Stock, drawn from Freerange archives, or contributed by a talented community of photographers.

How It Works:
Each contributed photo is evaluated by a reviewer for its usefulness as a stock photo. Since this is not a personal photo sharing site, family photo snapshots generally don't qualify as good stock. They ask that images be around 2400 x 1600 pixels and under 1.5 megs in file size, though there may be some flexibility in these areas.
Images of people will need to be model released, which means you would need ot have on hand a completed model release document from people who appear in your submitted images.
Images provided directly (in-house) by Freerange Stock originate one of two ways. They are either digitally photographed on Canon DSLR cameras or they are a high resolution (4000 dpi) Nikon scan of an original 35mm slide.

Once the image is acquired, the photo is sharpened, color corrected, cropped and keyworded. Some images are manipulated in Photoshop to make them more effective. Then the original is archived and a 2400x1600 version is optimized and output, then posted on the live site.

They put a lot of work into each image - they feel it's worth it to make the images as appealing as possible. Thousands of images don't make the cut - this makes the collection smaller, but more useful.
