How do you like specialized search? If you do, here are some Internet search engines to help you manage deals online.
www.bookfinder.com
www.pricewormer.com/books
Book Finder lists the lowest-priced books not only for new copies but used, as well. The site's main flaw is that shipping prices aren't included in the overwhelming results.
www.pricewormer.com/music/home.htm
Music Wormer (a sister site of Book Wormer and other media search engines) offers a variety of search options for CDs and sorts the results by total price, including shipping.
www.dvdpricesearch.net
DVD Price Search is one of the most full-featured comparison sites going, with a shopping cart that even tabulates which vendor has the best deal on several discs ordered at once. Its results include shipping and note coupons or promotions that might affect the price.
www.gamespot.com
The review site Game Spot is clunky, but it does the job. You have to search for a title, then pick the proper version and then click on the Buy It button in the upper-right part of the page for that game. Then scroll past the EB Games ad (which might have the lowest price) to see the results, which don't include shipping. Also try www.gamepricezone.com, run by the same folks behind DVD Price Search, although it's not as comprehensive.
http://dealnews.com/digital-cameras
Digital cameras and camcorders can be big-ticket items, but they also are popular gifts. Powerful Dealcam offers a wealth of search functions and gives comprehensive results from screened merchants that include the best total price and note coupons and other promotions that might apply.
http://dealmac.com
Computer-oriented price-search sites tend to be too wide-ranging, too narrow in their results or too difficult to use. Good luck with well-meaning sites such as www.pricewatch.com and www.streetprices.com. The related might be your best bet, but they focus on bargains, not price comparisons.
