What Company is Offering:
Blowtorch is an entertainment company that joins forces with you, their online legion of young, creative thinkers, to create unique feature length and short form films. You see, they kinda look at it like this, if you've helped to create something, there's a good chance you might actually like it.
And for those choosing to partake in the experience, they encourage you to put your stink on all things Blowtorch, or maybe just kick back and enjoy the deliciously stinky fruits of your peers labors.
How It Works:
Submit a video of your best short film idea. The theme can be anything at all related to “TECHNOLOGY.” Internet dating, killer robot vacuums, used time machine salesmen...whatever.
Remember, it’s all about the idea, not how you shoot it. So, a video camera is great, but a web-cam works too. Shoot it, pitch it, just get your idea out there. If yours wins, we’ll fly you out to LA to produce it for real. Submit as many as you like, just keep them under 3 minutes.
Blowtorch puts out 6 feature films per year. They play in hundreds of theaters nationwide. Any one film might be funny or edgy or scary, but if anything, they will always celebrate irreverence, engaging you in a familiar voice and attitude.
Likewise, their original live action and animated short films, or as we call them our "Blowtorch Shorts," are cut from the same cloth, just shamelessly and unapologetically making fun of anything and everything that gets in their way.
How Much They Got From VCs:
They announced that it has secured more than $50 million in initial funding including an equity investment from Ignition Partners. To create a media company for the young adult audience based on the belief that their media consumption behaviors require new rules for media creation. The investment enables Blowtorch to launch a three-year stream of feature films and short-form content, as well as to build the Blowtorch.com online community. The company’s first feature film release will be “You Are Here” and will debut in theaters in spring 2008.
Who Is behind Them:
The company was established by senior executives in entertainment, technology and advertising from firms including Leo Burnett, MTV, Ogilvy & Mather, Starcom MediaVest Group, Verizon and major Hollywood studios.
