Backtags provides a new assessment of websites in comparison to traditional traffic analysis and ranking methodologies

What Company Is Offering:
Backtags provides a new assessment of websites in comparison to traditional traffic analysis and ranking methodologies. Backtags brings in a social component, by determining the interaction of visitors with websites and the “Tags or Keywords” visitors use to describe the content of a particular website.

This is achieved by extracting data from the top leading social bookmarking services on how often individual websites are bookmarked or referenced by users and the descriptions visitors use to describe their perception of the content of a site.

How It Works:
Backtags collects the total amount of bookmarks for any domain across the top leading social bookmarking services. This data is then summarized resulting in a total score (Total amount of bookmarks or references) for any given domain. The results are then normalized to provide a ranking of all websites.

This "social ranking" gives an indication of the popularity of a website as determined by the user. The theory behind this is - If a large number of users use a particular keyword/tag or range of keywords/tags to describe their perception of the content of a site then this site is more relevant for these keywords or tags than others.
