Trusted Opinion is set to announce $1.3 million in first round venture capital

What Company Is Offering:
Trusted Opinion is a free online community for sharing ratings and recommendations between trusted individuals, and visually looks a lot like Amazon’s interface.

How It Works:

Instead of going the route of many other online media sellers and reviewers where reviews are aggregated and averaged across the whole user base, Trusted Opinion weights the opinions of people in one’s social network highest, and gradually diminishes the weight of others’ opinions as the degrees of separation increase.

There are plenty of ad hoc ways to work this into other platforms - iLike and the famous Facebook Questions application come to mind - but this is the first application with this unique take on media ratings .

According To Mashable:

Trusted Opinion is set to announce $1.3 million in first round venture capital Wednesday, but the source of the funding is undisclosed Since the official launch of its beta site in February 2007, the company is reported to have had over 350,000 registered members and approximately 3,000 new members added each day.
Proceeds from the funding are supposed to “accelerate Trusted Opinion’s impressive growth.”
